Being human means that we tend to forget. Fortunately, with the help of technology, it’s easy to stay on top of the to-do list with minimal effort. One of the most convenient ways to remember everything on your list of household chores is to set up location-based reminders. Need to remind you to call your great aunt on her birthday? When you arrive at your favorite cafe during lunch break, you can instruct the phone to send you an alert. If you have an Android device, it’s easy to create such a location-based reminder. This article describes all the options for that.
What is a location-based reminder?
Location-based reminders are alerts that are triggered when a user (and a GPS-enabled smartphone) is in a specific location. In some cases, you can also choose whether to deliver reminders when you leave a particular location.
Location services must always be turned on for these reminders to work. Unfortunately, this means that it can affect the battery life of your cell phone. Therefore, if you don’t have a charger when you’re away for a long time, it’s best to disable location-based reminders for a while. Still, these reminders are very helpful and can save you a lot of time and effort.
Setting up location-based reminders
There are several ways to set location-based reminders on your Android device. Most Androids come with a number of pre-installed Google apps, so you can easily use these apps to set these reminders. Check out all the options to do so below.
1. Google Assistant
The Google Assistant helps you set up location-based reminders quickly and efficiently. However, before you start, make sure you have assistant privileges to use the location on your Android device.
- Say “Hey Google” and wake up the assistant. Or, if you have the app installed on your phone, simply open it.
- Ask your assistant to “set a reminder”. Speak clearly so that your virtual assistant can understand.
- If Google asks you to enter a reminder, you can either enter it or speak loudly.
- Below the reminders are two options. Press “Add Location”.
- If you’ve previously set your home / work location in Google Maps, Google syncs that information to your assistant and the location appears as a reminder location option.
